Why you'll love the VITRU No.03

  • Yellow travertine behind a wooden spotlight. A 7 in disc of yellow travertine, shading from cream to warm ochre, holds a turned wood cylinder that aims the light. Point it at your book or a painting and it stays where you set it.
  • Dark walnut or light oak, raw brass. Pick the wood for the spotlight. The pivot and the small pull weight are unlacquered brass, so they deepen in tone over time.
  • Bathroom-safe, dimmable, bulb included. Damp-rated (IP44), it hardwires to a standard U.S. junction box at 120V, and the disc covers the round opening. It dims with a standard wall dimmer and ships with a free dimmable E26 bulb.

When we drew VITRU No.03, we were thinking about the wall-mounted reading lights of the studiolo cabinets of the Italian Renaissance: a flat stone medallion fixed to the wall, a small turned wood barrel pivoting in front of it to direct the light at a manuscript. Functional. Compact. Built for one task done well.

Our medallion is cut from yellow Tuscan travertine into a clean 7 inch disc. A walnut spotlight cylinder hangs from it on a precision pivot. The pivot is brass. The pull cord, hidden behind the disc, is a short braid of black cotton with a small brass weight.

Aim it at the book. Aim it at the artwork. Twist the pull. The cylinder holds wherever you set it.

Yellow travertine, walnut, unlacquered brass

The travertine disc is cut from a single piece. Color varies between cream and warm ochre. The walnut spotlight is turned from solid stock. We offer two wood tones: a darker American walnut and a paler European oak. The brass fittings are unlacquered, so they will deepen with time.

The fixture is built for a single 40W bulb at E26. A standard A19 LED is the right choice.

For bedsides, reading walls, and studio corners

Hardwires into any standard US junction box. The travertine disc covers any round opening. Dimmable with a standard wall dimmer. Damp-rated (IP44) for bathrooms and covered exteriors.
