Why you'll love the GRANO No.02

  • A travertine cylinder on a walnut bracket. The round column of solid yellow travertine is cut from a single block, its pores left open. From the side, a thin slice of walnut shows between stone and wall.
  • Three to five make a travertine row. At 6.3 inches tall and 2.5 in across, it repeats well: three to five along a hallway, a pair beside a bed, or one in a stairwell.
  • Two halos from one hidden socket. A recessed GU10 socket inside the cylinder throws light up and down, so the wall glows above and below the stone. The cream-to-ochre veining varies on every piece.
  • Wall-dimmer ready, with a free bulb. Hardwire it to a standard U.S. junction box at 120V and run it on a standard wall dimmer. You'll find a free dimmable GU10 bulb in the box.

The cylinder, kept honest.

When we drew GRANO No.02, we kept thinking about the most ancient lighting gesture there is: a single column of stone with a flame inside it. Punic lamps. Roman bath lanterns. The lighting Vincenzo Scamozzi pencilled into Venetian palazzo loggias. The form has outlasted its eras because it never asked to be anything other than a column.

This one is small. 6.3 inches of solid yellow travertine, hand-cut into a perfect cylinder, lit by a recessed GU10 socket that throws light up and down across the stone. The cylinder hangs on a flat wooden bracket pressed against the wall, just visible from the side as a sliver of warm grain. The fixture stays modest. The travertine carries the rest.

The stone is real, with the natural cavities and warm cream-to-ochre veining that travertine quarried in Tivoli has carried since Roman antiquity. Substantial at 1.9 lbs, small enough to live in a hallway, beside a bed, in a stairwell.

Hand-cut, left open

The cylinder is cut from a single block of yellow travertine and shaped by hand. The natural pores are left unfilled, which is how good travertine should be sold. The wooden mounting bracket is left exposed at the back, a small honesty that makes the column feel hand-built, not glued together.

A single GU10 socket sits hidden inside the cylinder, ready for any LED or halogen bulb you choose. Hardwired into a standard junction box, dimmable with a standard wall dimmer.

For walls that want texture, not noise

Hardwired install, 120V. Designed for indoor use along hallways, bedrooms, stairwells, and quiet corners of a living room. Especially good in series, three to five along a long wall, framing a passage or a corridor.

One cylinder. Real stone. Two openings for the light.
