A small cone of stone, mounted like a candle.
When we drew CONA No.03, we were thinking about the carved stone candle holders of Italian rural chapels: a tapered cone of local travertine, set on a flat wood disc, holding a single source of light at a fixed angle. The form is older than anyone alive.
Our cone is cut from yellow travertine quarried in Tuscany. The natural color sits between cream and warm ochre. Each cone is shaped on a lathe, finished with the open pores left visible, and set onto a turned walnut disc by a slim black iron arm and a small turned wood cap.
Compact at 4.3 inches wide and 5.9 inches tall. Sized to be installed in pairs flanking a bed, or in a run along a hallway.

The travertine cone is cut from a single block. Color varies slightly between pieces: some warmer, some closer to bone. The walnut disc is turned from solid stock and oiled to a low sheen. The arm is bent matte black iron. The collar at the top of the cone is turned walnut.
No filler. No paint. The stone arrives the way it left the quarry.
