Some walls deserve a column of stone.
When we designed PORTORO, we kept returning to the cloisters of Tuscany and the way Italian architects of the post-war era used a single panel of veined marble to anchor a room. PORTORO is built on that idea, scaled to a wall: a cylinder of Viola Calacatta cut from a single block, traversed top to bottom by a slim bracket of hand-cast brass.
The veining is what makes this piece. Viola Calacatta is one of the most distinctive Italian marbles, with purple and gray rivers cutting through warm white. Every cylinder is unique. We do not sort or grade. We let the stone speak.
Lit from inside, the marble glows. The translucency is real, not simulated. What looks like a heavy stone column by day becomes a lantern at night.
Cut from a single block, finished by hand
Each cylinder is core-drilled, then hand-finished to a soft satin that lets the texture of the stone read at arm's length. The bracket is sand-cast brass, lightly aged so it sits quietly against the stone instead of competing with it.
Brass does not pretend to be gold. It darkens with time the way good brass always does, and the contrast against the cool marble only deepens.
Built for halls, baths, and quiet rooms
Hardwired to a standard junction box, dual G9 sockets project light upward and downward in a soft wall-wash. Dimmable with a standard wall dimmer. Rated for damp locations, suitable beside a vanity or in a powder room.
Sold individually. A pair flanks a mirror. Three in a row, a corridor.
