Why you'll love the PERA No.01

  • A travertine reading light that tilts. The tulip dome is cut from a single piece of travertine and pivots on a blackened steel yoke. Its smoother inner face reflects light cleanly toward your page.
  • The switch is right where your hand goes. A blackened steel pull-chain hangs from the dome's lower edge, so you can turn it on and off at the source. No reaching for a wall switch from bed.
  • Just 4.9 inches wide, made for reading nooks. It fits beside a headboard, next to a low reading chair or on a library wall. The solid walnut canopy is lathe-turned and oiled, and covers the junction box.
  • On your wall dimmer, bulb included. It hardwires to a standard U.S. junction box at 120V and works with a standard wall dimmer. A free dimmable E26 bulb ships with it.

The reading sconce, rebuilt in stone.

When we designed PERA, we kept returning to the wall lights that lit small Italian libraries in the 1950s. Pivoting heads. A modest pull-chain. Just enough light to keep one chair in the room awake while the rest of the house slept.

PERA replaces the painted metal shade of that era with a tulip-shaped vessel cut from solid travertine. The dome pivots on a black metal yoke. The pull-chain hangs from the lower edge, so the switch is where your hand goes.

Mounted to a turned walnut backplate. Compact at 4.9 inches wide. Made for a headboard, a hallway, a reading nook by a low chair.

Stone where there used to be enamel

The dome is cut from a single piece of travertine, then hollowed out by hand. The pores stay open on the outer face and warm under direct light. The inside is sanded smoother to reflect more cleanly toward the page.

The yoke and pull-chain are blackened steel, not painted aluminum. The walnut canopy is solid wood, oiled, not veneered. The fixture aged into a home is the point.

Made for the reading chair

Direct-wired into any standard junction box. E26 socket, dimmable with a standard wall dimmer. Pull-chain for at-the-source on/off. Built for bedside walls, reading corners, and library walls.

One reading light. Built to outlast three lampshades.
