Why you'll love the CORTO No.01

  • A travertine cone made for reading. The hand-cut cone keeps its open pores on the outside and is sanded smoother inside, so light reflects cleanly down onto your page or chair.
  • Small enough for the wall above a desk. At 4.7 in wide and 6.7 in tall, it fits above a writing desk, a bedside table or a hallway niche, leaving the surface clear.
  • Black steel arm, walnut joint. A slim blackened steel arm, bent at a right angle, holds the cone away from the wall. At the joint sits a turned walnut sphere, and the canopy is solid oiled walnut.
  • Hardwires to your wall box, bulb included. It's direct-wired to a standard U.S. junction box at 120V, so your desk stays free of cords. It dims with a standard wall dimmer, and a free dimmable E14 bulb is included.

A pendant set against a wall.

When we designed CORTO, we kept returning to the wall lights that hung above writing desks in the small studies of Italian post-war architects. A short arm. A small shade. A reading light that left the desk surface clear.

CORTO is exactly that: a turned walnut canopy, a slim black-steel arm bent at a right angle, a walnut sphere as a hinge, and a travertine cone as the shade. Just 4.7 in wide, 6.7 in tall from arm to cone tip.

Built for the small wall above a writing desk, a bedside table, a hallway niche. Sized for a single chair, not a whole room.

Travertine cone, walnut hinge

The cone is hand-cut from a single block of beige travertine. The pores stay open. The interior is sanded smoother to reflect light cleanly downward to the page or chair below.

The walnut sphere at the joint is decorative and functional: it hides the cone-to-arm transition. The arm is blackened steel. The canopy is solid walnut, oiled, no veneer.

Made for the writing wall

Direct-wired into any standard junction box. E14 socket, free dimmable bulb included. Dimmable with a standard wall dimmer.

One arm. One stone. The reading light most rooms forget they need.
