Why you'll love the PIRA No.01

  • Raw travertine crowned with walnut. Each cone is hand-carved from natural travertine with its pin-holes left unfilled, so no two look alike. A solid walnut sphere balances the stone on top.
  • One head, a row or a ring. Choose a single head, a linear bar of two or three, or a circular crown of three for an entry hall. Each cone is just 4.7 inches across.
  • Light that falls straight down. The cone is hollowed underneath, so the light drops through its open mouth onto your table. Over the years the walnut darkens while the travertine lightens in the sun.
  • Ready for sloped ceilings to 30 degrees. It hangs from a standard U.S. junction box at 120V on a 59-inch adjustable cord and dims with a standard wall dimmer. Every head comes with a free dimmable G9 bulb.

A small cone, a wooden seed.

When we designed PIRA, we kept returning to a single image: a small ceremonial pyre marked by a single stone cone. The kind of object that exists somewhere between a candle and an architectural detail. PIRA holds that shape. A compact cone of natural travertine, 4.7 inches across at the base, crowned by a single sphere of solid walnut.

The cone is hollowed underneath. The light sits inside and casts down through the open mouth. The walnut sphere is purely formal, a counterweight to the stone below.

Four configurations: single head, linear two-head bar, linear three-head, or a circular three-head crown for entry halls and tall ceilings.

Carved, not cast

The travertine is sourced from a single Tivoli quarry and cut by hand. We left the figure raw, the pin-holes unfilled. The stone shows what it is, the way ancient stone in a church does after centuries.

The walnut sphere is turned from solid European walnut. We hand-oil it once and leave it. Over years, it darkens. Travertine lightens with sun. The contrast deepens with time.

Built to live anywhere

Hardwired into any standard US junction box. 59-inch adjustable cord. G9 socket, dimmable with a standard wall dimmer. Sloped ceilings up to 30 degrees accommodated.

Sold individually. Three in a row carries a dining table. Three in a ring centers a foyer.
