  • Travertine thin enough to let light through. The cylinder is cut thin from translucent travertine and left unfilled, so light passes through its open pores. Like a parchment lantern, each one glows in its own pattern.
  • Walnut and black iron, just 8¼ inches tall. A slim matte black iron arm holds the stone out from a solid walnut backplate, oiled to a low sheen. At 5 inches wide, it fits a bedside, a hallway or a bathroom wall.
  • Hidden bulb, free and dimmable. It hardwires to a standard U.S. junction box at 120V and dims with a standard wall dimmer. A free dimmable E26 bulb ships with it, hidden behind a glass inner diffuser.

Some stones hold the light back. This one lets it through.

When we cut OLTRE, we were looking for the rare seams of travertine where the stone is thin enough to glow. The Italian quarries near Tivoli pull a handful of these veins a year. The pores stay open. The light passes through. The surface becomes a constellation rather than a wall.

OLTRE is a small cylinder cut from one of those seams, suspended from a thin black iron arm and a turned walnut backplate. Lit from inside, the cylinder behaves the way a parchment lantern does: the pattern of the stone becomes the pattern of the light.

Compact at 8.3 inches tall. Quietly architectural at dusk.

Translucent travertine, integrated wiring

Each cylinder is graded by hand from a translucent travertine vein. The stone is cut thin, polished only where it bears mechanical load, and left unfilled. Every cylinder carries a different pore pattern, and therefore a different glow.

The arm is bent matte black iron. The backplate is solid American walnut, oiled to a low sheen. The socket sits inside the cylinder, behind a small premium glass diffuser.

For bedside, hallway, and bathroom walls

Hardwires into a standard US junction box. E26 socket, 40W max bulb (LED equivalent), dimmable with a standard wall dimmer. Damp-rated (IP44) for damp rooms.
