Why you'll love the SCOLA No.01

  • Stepped opal glass under a brass cap. The milky opal shade is mouth-blown in a stepped schoolhouse mold and held by an aged brass cap, flat-head screws in view, on a brown twisted cord.
  • Small for a stairwell, Large for dining. The Small is 7¾ inches across and 7 inches tall, for a stairwell, kitchen or bedside. The Large, 11¾ by 10¾ inches, hangs over a dining table.
  • Hang it long or close to the ceiling. The cord adjusts up to 47 inches for a pendant drop, or shortens for a low, almost flush look. Three Smalls in a row suit an island.
  • Plain wall switch now, smart dimming later. It hardwires to a standard U.S. junction box at 120V and runs from your wall switch. Smart dimming needs a compatible system, and there's no bulb to change.

Mid-century Italian classrooms ran a single fixture above each row of desks, a stepped opal globe held by a brass cap. The same lamp showed up in Roman brasseries, in Milanese chemists, in the small bars near the Arno. SCOLA No.01 returns that schoolhouse silhouette with no irony and no shortcuts. The glass is mouth-blown, the brass is aged, and the cord still twists in the old way.

Each shade is blown into a stepped opal mold, the milky white pulled until the seams disappear. The brass cap is finished in aged patina, with the flat-head screws left visible against the gallery edge, an industrial detail that Italian schoolhouse fitters never bothered to hide. The cord is brown twisted fabric, the kind that wrapped Edison-era pendants in every cafe along the Po. The canopy matches the cap.

SCOLA No.01 ships in two sizes. The small reads at 7¾ in across by 7 in tall (Ø 20 x H 18 cm). The large jumps to 11¾ in across by 10¾ in tall (Ø 30 x H 27 cm). The cord is adjustable for pendant drop, or shortened for a low-profile flush mount. Wired for 36V low-voltage with a compatible driver, and pre-set for smart compatibility (Mijia ecosystem). Smart features remain optional, the lamp works on a wall switch alone.

Hang the small version in a stairwell, the kitchen, or above a bedside table. The large reads as a single statement above a dining table or restaurant counter. Run three of the small SCOLA in a row above an island for a quiet schoolhouse rhythm. Pair with the OVIA amber pendant for a contrast in glass color, or with the TONDO travertine ring pendant for material counterpoint.
