Why you'll love the KANSO No.03

  • Raw travertine, chiseled and left rough. Each slab is hand-chiseled from a single block, with the tool marks left on every face but the back. No two stones share an outline.
  • An opal globe set forward of the stone. The globe glows in front of the slab like a moon caught in rock, and the unlacquered brass fittings deepen in tone over the years.
  • Narrow enough for the tightest wall. At 3¼ in wide and 12¾ inches tall, it slips onto the slim wall beside a door or mirror. Rated IP44, it's damp-rated for bathrooms and covered porches.
  • Wired through walnut, free G9 bulb. It hardwires to a standard U.S. junction box at 120V, with the walnut backplate carrying the wiring. A free dimmable G9 bulb ships with it, ready for your wall dimmer.

A piece of stone, finished where it counts.

When we drew KANSO No.03, we were looking at the rough field stones built into the walls of Trappist abbeys in southern France: shaped only enough to fit, left chiseled everywhere else. The mason knew which surfaces would be seen and which would carry the load. Nothing was polished that did not need to be.

KANSO No.03 carries that exact discipline. A vertical slab of raw travertine, chiseled on three sides and squared only where it meets the wall. A small hand-blown opal globe sits forward of the stone like a moon caught in rock. A walnut backplate carries the wiring.

Slim enough at 3.3 inches wide to live on the narrowest wall. Tall enough at 12.6 inches to register as a vertical mark.

Raw stone, real glass

Each slab is hand-chiseled from a single block of Italian travertine. No two stones share an outline. The chisel marks are kept visible on every face except the wall-side cut. The opal globe is hand-blown to a soft matte finish that diffuses the small G9 bulb evenly.

The walnut backplate is turned from solid stock and oiled. The brass fittings are unlacquered so they will deepen over the years.

Wabi-sabi at architectural scale

Hardwires into a standard US junction box. G9 socket, 7W max bulb (LED equivalent), dimmable with a standard wall dimmer. Damp-rated (IP44) for bathrooms and covered exteriors.

Each slab is unique. Pairs or runs of three look best.
