The stone is the fixture.
When we drew NUVOLA, we kept returning to the bath suites of small Florentine hotels. A slab of book-matched marble on the vanity wall, a single sconce mounted to the side of the mirror, the stone left to do most of the talking. We wanted to keep that ratio. The fixture should disappear behind the material.
NUVOLA is built on a small marble dome carved from a single block of Calacatta Viola, suspended on a thin black-steel arm from a polished round backplate. The dome is six inches across, the arm clears the mirror by ten. The stone glows when the integrated LED comes on, the veining lit from inside.
Two finishes for the backplate: polished gunmetal and matte white. The marble is always the marble. No two pieces share the same vein pattern.
Cut from one block, finished by hand
The dome is bored from a single piece of Italian marble, then hand-finished to a ⅛-inch wall thickness. Thin enough to backlight, thick enough to ring when tapped. The veining is selected before cutting, so each shade reads as deliberate rather than random.
The arm is steel, machined and polished to a glassy black. It picks up reflections in a way that matte powder coat never can.
