Why you'll love the IBLA No.01

  • Iron arc reaching out into the room. The matte black iron arm rises from a solid walnut backplate, then curves down to hold a travertine dome and opal globe away from the wall. A walnut sphere counterweights the end.
  • Unfilled travertine over hand-blown glass. The dome is left raw, so you see the stone's natural pores, and no two match. The opal globe beneath softens the G9 bulb without glare.
  • Damp-rated, so the bath counts too. Rated IP44, it works beside a bathroom mirror or on a covered porch. At 15.7 inches tall and 6 inches wide, a pair flanks a bed, mirror or console.
  • Walnut plate hides the junction box. The solid walnut backplate covers a standard round U.S. junction box at 120V. It works with a standard wall dimmer, and a free dimmable G9 bulb ships with it.

A sconce that hangs, not mounts.

When we sketched IBLA, we were looking at the slim wrought-iron brackets that hold lanterns above the doors of old Sicilian palazzi. They never sit flush. They arc out into the room, carry their weight at a distance, and let the light hang the way a pendant does, but from a wall.

IBLA carries that exact geometry into a contemporary scale. A slim black iron arm curves up from a walnut backplate, then descends to cradle a travertine half-dome with a small opal globe nested beneath it. A second walnut sphere counterweights the lower end of the arc, the way a watchmaker's pendulum settles a movement.

It is a single fixture that reads as three: stone, glass, wood, threaded onto a line of black iron.

Hand-cut stone over hand-blown glass

The dome is cut from raw Italian travertine and left unfilled. You can see the natural pores. You can feel the cut marks. The opal globe beneath it is hand-blown to a soft matte finish that catches the warm half-light of a G9 bulb without glare.

The iron arm is bent in a single pass, then powder-coated matte black. The walnut backplate and counterweight are turned from solid stock and finished with a low-sheen oil. Every joint is mechanical. Nothing is glued.

For the wall that wants to be furniture

Hardwires into a standard US junction box. The walnut backplate covers any standard round opening. G9 socket, 10W max bulb (LED equivalent), dimmable with a standard wall dimmer. Damp-rated (IP44) for bathrooms and covered exteriors.

15.7 inches tall. Pairs beautifully flanking a bed, a mirror, or a console.
