Stone that holds the light inside it.
GROTTA started with a single observation: most terrazzo lights cover the stone with too much fixture. The result is a piece you read as bracket-with-stone, not stone-with-bracket. We did the inverse. A small walnut canopy at the top, a long thin cord, and then a piece of terrazzo doing all the work. The aggregate inside the stone catches light from the bulb and throws it back across the chips. The piece glows from within, not just below.
The aggregate is irregular by design. Brass-toned mineral chips, white veining, scattered amber. Each piece is hand-poured, so each lights differently.
Three silhouettes: Cylinder (4.7 inches tall), Drum (5.9 inches), Totem (slim 7.9 inches). Two wood finishes: walnut or natural wood for the canopy.
Hand-poured terrazzo, solid walnut
Each terrazzo shade is cast individually with brass-flake aggregate. The matrix is a warm cream. We polished but did not glaze, so the pores remain visible and the surface keeps the matte stone feel. The walnut canopy is turned solid wood, oil-finished.
One E26 socket accepts an LED bulb up to 40W equivalent. Dimmer-compatible on any standard wall dimmer. Cord is 59 inches and easily shortened. Sloped-ceiling compatible up to 30 degrees.
