Why you'll love the TARO No.01

  • Solid brass that wears in without flaking. The cone is cast and machined from solid brass. Brushed brass deepens slowly with age, while matte black keeps its first look.
  • Walnut at the tip, light pooled below. A hand-turned solid walnut sphere ends the cone and gives it a point of focus. Below, the light falls in one warm pool onto your table.
  • Sized for a console or a counter row. The shade is 7.9 inches across and 9.4 inches tall on a 59-inch adjustable cord. Hang one above a console, or three in a row along a long counter.
  • Ready for sloped ceilings and dimmers. It mounts to a standard U.S. junction box at 120V, works with a standard wall dimmer and fits ceilings sloped up to 30 degrees. A free dimmable E26 bulb ships with it.

A small brass cone, a wooden seed.

When we drew TARO, we kept returning to a single object: an old ship's plumb-bob, a brass cone above a wooden weight, balanced perfectly on a string. A precision instrument, used once a day, made to last a century. TARO holds that shape. A compact brass cone, 7.9 inches across at the base, with a small turned walnut sphere set into the tip.

The brass is solid, not plated. We finish it in either brushed natural brass, which will patina slowly over years, or in a matte black that stays close to its first appearance.

The walnut sphere is purely formal. It interrupts the cone, ends it, gives it a point of focus.

Solid brass, not plated

The shade is cast and machined from solid brass alloy. We chose solid over plated because plating fails. Solid brass wears, it does not flake. Over years, brushed natural ages into a deeper warmer tone. The matte black version is lacquered for stability.

The walnut tip is turned from a single block of European walnut and oil-finished by hand. It darkens slowly, the way good wood does.

Built to live anywhere

Hardwired into any standard US junction box. 59-inch adjustable cord. E26 socket. Works with a standard wall dimmer. Sloped ceilings up to 30 degrees accommodated.

Sold individually. Works alone above a console, or in a row of three over a long counter.
