  • A block of alabaster that becomes the light. A hand-cut monolith of natural alabaster hides the bulb inside, so the whole stone glows. Blocks are chosen for deep veining, and no two lamps look alike.

A single stone, lit from inside.

When we drew OBSI, we kept returning to a single image: a slab of translucent stone sitting on a desk in a Venetian palazzo, lit from a hidden candle inside. OBSI No.01 holds that gesture. A solid block of natural alabaster, hand-cut into a monolith form, set on a column of solid brass. A bulb sits hidden inside, and the entire stone reads as if it were the source of the light.

The translucency is real. We select alabaster pieces for the depth of their veining, not the flatness of their color. When the lamp is on, the figure of the stone glows from inside, like a stained-glass detail compressed into a single slab.

Real alabaster, real brass

The stone is sourced from Volterra. Each block shows its own pattern. The internal brass column is solid, not plated. No two OBSIs are identical.
